Program description
A learning strategy refers to a person’s approach to learning and utilizing information. Students who lack knowledge of effective learning strategies often engage in passive learning and struggle academically. Strategic instruction aims to transform students into active learners. The workshop is designed to train teachers in refining students’ study skills. The Strategies Instructional approach aims to improve learning skills, thereby enhancing academic performance in the classroom.
Learning Strategies
- The Word Identification Strategy assists in decoding multi-syllable words.
- The Word Mapping Strategy is designed to help students predict the meaning of unknown words by identifying meaningful parts of words and using them for prediction, thereby enhancing comprehension.
- The Self-Questioning Strategy encourages students to engage actively with text by generating questions, predicting answers, searching for answers, and independently paraphrasing.
- The Visual Imagery Strategy, a reading comprehension strategy, prompts students to visualize scenery, characters, and action, aiding in comprehension as they describe these scenes to themselves.
- The Paraphrasing Strategy aids in identifying main ideas and details, facilitating the rephrasing of content in one’s own words.
- Fundamentals of Paraphrasing & Summarizing provides essential skills for paraphrasing, focusing on translating information, identifying main ideas and details, which are foundational for paraphrasing and summarizing.
- The Sentence Writing Strategy program consists of two parts: Fundamentals in the Sentence Writing Strategy and Proficiency in the Sentence Writing Strategy. These components collectively enable the recognition and writing of 14 sentence patterns.
- The Paragraph Writing Strategy organizes ideas related to a topic, plans the point of view and verb tense, sequences ideas, and crafts various topic, detail, and clincher sentences.Â
